July and August Favorites
July sneaked by me before I knew it, so I decided to save the few things I’d saved for my favorites post and combine them with my August Favorites. It’s been a good summer, but a little busy in the second half, so there aren’t as many links as usual, but the ones I’m sharing are good ones.
I’m still checking off things on my summer checklist. I just made my first shrub the other day, and I’ve started spending Sunday afternoons flipping through my cookbooks and coloring and reading. Speaking of reading, I’ve added several books to my original summer reading list. I don’t know if I should update it or not considering I’m still on a childhood favorites kick - I just can’t get enough Nancy Drew, I tell ya!
How’s summer been for you?
Here are a few things I’ve enjoyed or that have encouraged me this month…
I just have to say, one of the biggest blessings to me this whole year has been my daily readings in My Utmost for His Highest. This recent entry on Usefulness or Relationship is one I need to reread often just to remind myself of this truth. (By the way, if you didn’t know, you can read the entire devotional online for free!)
Here are some theologisms you probably wouldn’t embroider on a pillow. LOL.
On a more serious note, here’s some truth for when the shine wears off.
I’ll be re-listening to this sermon on trusting the God you believe in for sure!
Here’s why the book of Ruth is not about Boaz. Cue all my single ladies rejoicing!
Speaking of singleness, this is one of the best reflections on singleness I’ve read in a long time.
ICYMI, here’s my very low-key summer checklist. Like, very low-key.
Here are the 13 most beautiful libraries in the world. Gorgeous!
Does an apple a day really keep the doctor away? This was interesting!
Change your thinking, change your life.
I’ve been listening to all the Karen Swallow Prior interviews about her new book, and here’s another great interview with her on imagining the gospel that I enjoyed reading. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too!
And here’s why decluttering isn’t like waving a magic wand. Great insights!
Good reads for thinking and reflecting:
On Barbie:
Currently listening to:
This conversation with Jackie Hill Perry on revival - so good!
Why pray if God is sovereign? - I’ve really been enjoying this mini-series on prayer by Phylicia Masonheimer.
Valiant Women - I absolutely loved this interview with Lena Andrews on Sharon McMahon’s podcast. So many interesting stories about women from WWII!
Women and Words - This episode with Dr. Philip B. Payne was eye-opening to say the least.
Hometown Stories - The episode on Texas was awesome - that first story was wild!
The Making of Biblical Womanhood (still!)
Speaking of books, here’s my summer reading list. What’s on yours?
Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with anyone or anything on this list. Just sharing a few of my favorite things!
