May Favorites
May was low-key and beautiful. I’d love to do it again! I’m enjoying walking every morning and reading every night before bed - also, it’s grilling weather! Finally!
How was May for you?
Here are a few things I’ve enjoyed or that have encouraged me this month…
I so appreciate the testimony in this sermon Why I Still Believe by Dr. Barr. So encouraging.
Why not make savory pancakes? Yes, why not?! As a savory breakfast person, I love this and am already planning which savory combinations I want to try!
On women and the sanctity of singleness: “What the emphasis on marriage as a symbol of Christ and the church often fails to mention, however, is that all believers are Christ’s bride. This is a missed opportunity to highlight the symbol of our union in Christ for everyone—single and married.”
Currently learning to think of prayer as Jesus taught.
Speaking of prayer, this sermon by Dr. Evans is a timely reminder: Prayer Part 1 & Part 2.
I love the idea of creating a very low-key summer checklist. In fact, I’m in the process of making my own list as we speak!
This opinion piece is a must-read: “He didn’t create us to be passive receptacles. He created us to be living vessels, actively engaged in our own stories.”
If you’re like me and wanting to learn to become un-busy, here are 5 steps to a more balanced life.
“I don’t care about your yoga pants. I just don’t want to dress for men’s eyes.”
Something to think about: "Preach the Gospel at all times - and use words.”
Another must-read opinion piece: “Christ calls us out into an alternate society and kingdom where there is no hierarchy. Rather than a rigid system where everyone has to know their place in order to thrive, Jesus offers us freedom. Freedom to be a priesthood of believers where everyone can minister in whatever capacity and gifting they have. The Cross of Christ has broken the curse of sin and death forever.”
We are defined by the things we don’t do.
Let’s stop doing as the Romans do. Amen.
What are your hobbies? “All this creativity is so inspiring.” I agree!
Currently listening to:
The Role of Faith in Prayer - A gem of a message by Dallas Willard.
Anxiety Is Opportunity - Curtis Chang gives the best talk on anxiety I’ve heard.
The Gift and Necessity of Time Away with God - Ruth Haley Barton gives the best talk I’ve heard on having a retreat with God. I love the idea of having a day retreat alone with Him in your own home!
Misusing the Marriage Metaphor - This interview with Dr. Beth Felker Jones and Dr. Amy Peeler was, again, the best response I’ve heard to this situation/issue. The interview starts at 46:14.
Currently on my nightstand: Adorning the Dark and The Pursuit of Holiness.
Speaking of books, here’s my spring reading list. What’s on yours?
Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with anyone or anything on this list. Just sharing a few of my favorite things!
