My Favorite Things: June 2023

June Favorites

June was very much like May was for me, low-key and beautiful. I’m still enjoying walking every morning and reading every night before bed. I’m also still loving trying out new grilling recipes and easy summer desserts. (See below!)

I’m also slowly checking off things on my summer checklist, like making this banana pudding ice cream cake a couple of weekends ago. It was delicious and I kind of want to make another one which is… odd for me as I’m not an ice cream person. Maybe I’m becoming one…?

How was June for you?

Here are a few things I’ve enjoyed or that have encouraged me this month…

First things first: this meme and this reel made my month. LOL.

Can’t wait to try these: a trick for the fluffiest deli-style cream cheese and grating frozen fruit for the quickest, coolest summer dessert.

Here are 8 great worship artists beyond Hillsong, Bethel, and Elevation.

I always enjoy hearing Dr. Evans teaching about prayer.

I also enjoyed hearing Justin Giboney talk about Juneteenth, Pluralism, and the Gospel.

ICYMI, this month I shared my very low-key summer checklist. Like, very low-key.

The question we should all be asking right now: What does it profit a Christian to protect an institution but lose their soul? I mean, here’s something to think about: “Do not confuse giftedness with character, in yourself or in anyone else. You shouldn’t expect your leaders to be sinless. They will sin, but there’s a difference between a sinning, repenting human being and a pattern of corruption. If the latter, you will have to ask yourself how to address it.”

I love the idea of cabbage carbonara! Yum!

How you spend your morning matters.

On Reframing Paul on Sexual Ethics Part One and Part Two: “It’s easy to instrumentalize this teaching on singleness, easy to talk about it as though the whole point were that single people have more hours for evangelism and service than married folks do. As a married woman, I’m tempted to this kind of instrumentalization and even romanticizing of singleness. But the point of Pauline singleness isn’t work hours. The point of that singleness is Jesus.”

How to get more done in the kitchen. Three great tips!

On the SBC vote this month:

I can’t wait to make this grilled BBQ chicken pizza this weekend, along with this 5 ingredient peach dump dessert. Summer is all about grilling and easy fruit desserts, am I right?!

Currently rereading this article on why fruitfulness is better than productivity because I need to be reminded of this truth on a regular basis. You too?

Currently listening to:

  • Is the World Doomed? and Will There Be Animals in Heaven? - Always enjoy N.T. Wright’s Q&A podcast episodes!

  • Invitations from God - I’ve been loving season 13 of Ruth Haley Barton’s podcast; it’s a conversation with Adele Calhoun on how God invites us to things and to experiences, and how we can learn to accept His invitations.

  • Dealing with Bad Press: The Christian Response - A great episode from After Class on responding to the “bad press” when Christians are caught in sin.

  • Original Sin - And speaking of After Class, if you haven’t listened to their series on Original Sin, here it is! I finished it earlier this month and it was very thorough.

  • Hometown Stories - I’m loving this summer series by The Habit Podcast where writers share short stories from their hometowns. It’s like a series of mini audio books and I’m loving having something different to listen to in between the “serious” podcasts.

Currently on my nightstand: The Making of Biblical Womanhood, Kaleidoscope, and The Ghost of Blackwood Hall.

Speaking of books, here’s my summer reading list. What’s on yours?

Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with anyone or anything on this list.  Just sharing a few of my favorite things!
