My Fall Reading List
I’m definitely a summer person, the warm weather and bright, sun-filled days make me so happy, but this year one of the things that’s helped me transition into fall - and dare I say, even look forward to it - is creating a big pile of books to slowly savor as the days get colder and shorter.
Over the summer, I started picking up books here and there, books that I’ve been really wanting to read or books that I’d had on my wishlist for a while that I finally bought.
It may seem not-that-exciting, but for me, having this stack of books sitting out where I can see it, and gradually adding books here and there as I came across them, it actually made me eagerly anticipate the season change so I can curl up with one of them and start reading.
One habit I’m carrying over from the summer is reading lighter books at bedtime. I reread a lot of my childhood favorites over the summer, and having a fun book I look forward to reading before bed has really helped me stay in a consistent night routine and go to bed at a decent hour. So during the evenings this fall, I’ll be reading a few fiction books I didn’t get to finish this summer, as well as a few memoirs I’ve been looking forward to.
I’m so excited because tomorrow is the first day of fall, so it’s finally time to dive in and start reading!
Here’s what I’m reading this autumn…
Memoirs:
I’ve gushed about my love for Margaret Jensen’s books elsewhere, so I won’t gush here, but I was very happy to find a few more of her books online. They’re comforting, encouraging, and in my opinion, the perfect bedtime book if you want to go to sleep with a little warmth and hope in your heart. Blessed Are the Nones is a memoir I’ve been wanting to read since I first came across it a few months back so I can’t wait to get into that one. And I know the Little House books aren’t technically memoirs, but they’re not fully fiction either, so I put them in this category.
Stories By the Sea - Margaret Jensen
A Nail in a Sure Place - Margaret Jensen
A View from the Top - Margaret Jensen
Blessed Are the Nones - Stina Kielsmeier-Cook
Little House Books - Laura Ingalls Wilder
Fiction:
Pollyanna is a childhood book I didn’t get to this summer so I’ll be reading it this fall and - doggone it - as many times as I told myself I need to read other books besides Nancy Drew mysteries, I just can’t seem to quit them, so I’m not. I don’t know why, but the Anne of Green Gables series also seems perfect for autumn. (Maybe it’s because I was raised on the TV series and there were all those shots containing gorgeous fall scenery!)
Pollyanna - Eleanor H. Porter
Anne Books - L.M. Montgomery
Spiritual Growth:
I won’t go over these individually but I’ll just say each one holds interest for me and I’m having a hard time deciding which one to read first.
Prayer - Ole Hallesby
Holy Spirit Power - Charles Spurgeon
Gentle and Lowly - Dane Ortlund
Freedom of Simplicity - Richard Foster
The Sound of a Million Dreams - Suanne Camfield
What Does Your Soul Love? - Gem and Alan Fadling
God-Soaked Life - Chris Webb
Happiness - Randy Alcorn
Ok, those are the books in my autumn book stack. What books are in yours?
